DOWN BY THE SEA by Michael Simmons
Art as Work is pleased to present “Down by the Sea”, a series of amazing water-based drawings created by me, Michael Simmons.
I have enjoyed art since I was young due to wanting to be a comic book author. Due to this I have been able to work with multiple different art applications. Of them all, my preferred apps are Autodesk Sketchbook and Krita. That said, I do most of my drawing directly on paper in one of the millions of sketchbooks I own. I also occasionally draw my school notes to make them easier to remember. I currently live in Largo, Maryland and work as a freelance Graphic Designer.
I wanted to focus on this specific theme because I find sea-based areas to be the most relaxing and best places to hang out. “Mini-Mill”, for example, was partly inspired by areas such as Splash Canyon from Sonic Riders. At the same time, I wanted the art in my exhibit to be action-packed, which is why I tried to add varying angles to my work. This exhibit was also an opportunity to practice different shading styles, with all three of the sketch drawings being shaded using a different method. I was also able to learn a new way of coloring using lines as a way to show motion.
