Pilina with Maui by Amanda Lane
“Lahaina Sunset,” Acrylic, 10 x 10
Art as Work is pleased to present “Pilina with Maui,” an installation conceived by the Maryland artist Amanda Lane.
This exhibition is based on two of my acrylic paintings that were photographs of my two favorite places in Maui, Hawaii. These paintings are about my “Pilina” with Maui. When I visited Maui, it was a life-changing experience for me, and I felt a powerful “Pilina,” which means connection in Hawaiian. When viewing my paintings, I want people to feel the same way I felt when I visited the island. The colors on the island were vibrant, and the air was soothing. I want people to feel transported and have a concept of what it feels like to actually sit on the beach when the sun is setting. My family and I spent several days driving around Maui and visiting beautiful mountains. We had the wind in our hair while surrounded by lush views. It was like walking through heaven.
Amanda Lane currently lives and works in Westminster, Maryland.
