Soul Untethered by Carly Brock
Art As Work is pleased to present Soul Untethered, an
installation conceived by the Virginia artist Carly Brock.
Soul Untethered is a free-spirited exhibit that gives a
glimpse into my mind and imagination. These pieces of work have some unique and
abstract qualities that’s intent is to make viewers think more subjectively and
less logically. I want this exhibit to feel relaxed and in the moment to the viewers. In other words, I want it to feel as if they saw these drawings as they were walking by from far away and were intrigued enough to see them up close. The Quad is a high traffic area on campus, and I hoped people would slow down and be curious. We as human beings are so easily influenced by each other, and
I want people to remember to think freely and for themselves not by simply
agreeing or compromising your thoughts to another’s. These drawings vary in format, and the utensils used because not all thoughts are the
same and go together. Your thoughts may be competing or different and that’s what
makes them unique. As we get older, we start to veer away from our imagination
and free-thinking and focus more logically and practically and this is a
reminder that imaginations are not just for kids, free-thinking is for everyone and to live in the moment.
Carly currently lives and works in Westminster, Maryland.
